Jaymin Update

So we are planning a trip for Jaymin to California for a week of lessons with a couple of my teachers at the ABM center this June. This will be his second time being there for lessons. Last year in July he made several great changes during and after his lessons with Marcy! That is when he first started signing with his left hand interchangeably with his right hand. And he also had the least spasticity in his hips that he ever had before his SPML surgery, after that set of lessons.

This time we are seeing Marcy,as before, and also have 4 lessons with another children's ABM practitioner who is a speech/language pathologist and works with many children with speech and feeding difficulties. I am so excited to see what he will learn from both of them!

With the SPML surgery already done, giving him much more range of motion in his hips and legs and the ability to start learning to move without the spasticity hi-jacking him immediately, he has great potential to learn! And with his recent explosion in eating, I am sooo hopeful that some speech will be following sometime soon! He so badly wants to tell me things sometimes! His voice will be telling me, but his mouth doesn't know how to form the sounds.

We also have to take a very quick trip to TX to follow up with his surgeon, which we will do on our way home from California. I am hopeful that we will have some good news about his hips going back into socket, but it may be a little early to see that yet.

Unfortunately, along with more lessons and travel, come added expenses. I am still working on paying for his SPML surgery, and will be for a while.... We still owe approximately $7,600. The week of lessons in California in June will cost $2,600, plus travel, lodging, and food, which brings the total over $5,500. I have run out of fundraising ideas, as well as the energy and time it takes to carry them out, but would be grateful for any ideas or help putting an idea into action. Please share Jaymin's story with your friends and acquaintances. There is a Paypal button on this blog page that will direct donations straight to us. I have just set up a savings account in Jaymin's name at a local bank, where donations can be sent. This account will be used exclusively for therapies not covered by insurance, travel expenses for therapy, and special equipment needed that is not covered by insurance.

We are very, very grateful for every donation we have received during the last year! You all have made a huge difference in the life of a precious little boy and lessened the stress and worry of his mother!

Jay tried his first lollipop this week and kinda liked it!
And this morning he ate regular scrambled eggs, mandarin oranges, and a few bitesof toast!! I was so impressed! Felt sure that he would gag and throw up and I'd have to go make him some oatmeal as usual.

Mama's way behind again... 😒 We finished up lessons on Sunday and then headed home again. Last pic shows how he fell asleep in the car on the way home. Love how he is playing with his feet so much now!

We're in Louisville this weekend for more lessons for Jaymin. He is doing very well! And he ate multiple bitesof my omelette and pancakes for breakfast😊

May 6

Jaymin ate about half a kids meal at Los Portales last night!! Without mashing anything up, I just cut the enchilada into small pieces. We've been waiting on this for so long, it's kind of unbelievable!!

Circus

We went to the circus Friday night! He was soooo happy the entire evening, which lasted well past bedtime! He didn't seem to pay attention to what was happening in the ring, since it was so far away, but the lights and music were so cool!

Birthday party was a success! He was very interested in the candles and sniffed thru his nose to help me blow them out! Then he ate about a 1/3 of his piece of cake and all his chocolate ice cream! Woohoo!

Happy 4th birthday J-man!! We opened a bunch of presents and took cupcakes to school. His hit the floor in about 2 seconds!! Lol!! But I helped him get some tastes of frosting from his very messy hands. We're saving birthday cake till the weekend...

Yesterday afternoon we went to pick up Jay's hip brace from the orthotist. This is going to be something to get used to... The brace is to put his hips in a position to maximize the possibility that they will go fully back into their sockets. He can move while in it, just can't bring his legs any closer together. His surgeon said the more he can be in it the better, but not during play and activities. So we are trying it at night and naps. He is used to sleeping tightly curled on his side, so this may be difficult.
And tomorrow Mr JJ turns 4 years old! I've spent a couple hours taking toys out of boxes, putting in batteries and wrapping them up. Thanks to all his friends and family, his amazon wish list is nearly cleared out!
